4XVR vs Skybox vs DeoVR: which Quest 3D player?

Three players, three different jobs. The one you need depends on whether your collection is SBS files or Blu-ray 3D rips.

Watching converted clips, not Blu-ray rips? You don't need any of these apps — the file this site produces is a normal MP4 that plays in a browser.

Feature lists follow the vendors' own store/FAQ pages (4XVR, Skybox, DeoVR) as of late 2025; both paid apps update often, so check the current listing before buying.

The deciding question: do you own 3D Blu-rays?

If yes, 4XVR is the one that matters — it is the only player here that decodes MVC, the format a 3D Blu-ray uses, so a straight MakeMKV rip plays without being converted to half-SBS first. That is why it costs more than the others.

If your collection is already SBS files — downloads, conversions, old broadcasts — then every player in this table will do, including the free browser one. Paying for a player changes nothing about how an SBS file looks.

What none of them fix

A player cannot put back resolution that was never stored: a Half-SBS file stays soft no matter which app opens it (the math). And if the file has no 3D flag, some players guess wrong — that is a file problem, fixable with the 3D flag fixer, not a player problem.

FAQ

Do I need 4XVR for clips I converted myself?
No. Converted clips are ordinary MP4 files with both eyes in one frame; any player with an SBS switch reads them, including the browser player on this site. 4XVR's advantage is MVC Blu-ray decoding, which those files do not use.
Is Skybox or DeoVR better for SBS files?
Both play SBS. Skybox is the more library-oriented app (SMB/DLNA, Plex/Emby/Jellyfin, Blu-ray ISO in 2.x); DeoVR is built around streaming VR content. For local SBS files the practical difference is the menu, not the picture.
Why does a Blu-ray 3D rip show as flat or doubled in Skybox?
If the file is MVC-encoded (a straight Blu-ray 3D rip), a player that cannot decode MVC will show one eye or a wrong layout. Either convert it to SBS first, or use a player with MVC support.
Can I try before buying?
Yes — convert one clip on this site and play it in the browser player. If that already looks right on your headset, the paid apps are only adding library and Blu-ray handling, not better 3D.
